Richmond Historic Tour
This tour takes in the historic sites, monuments, architecture and noteworthy features of Richmond, Virginia. Richmond is a young city by world standards, but it is steeped in early American history. The city was essential to early American commerce, and maintained importance through the divisive American Civil War and well after. Currently, the city is home to numerous Fortune 500 company headquarters, nationally recognized art museums, and a number of universities. We hope you will enjoy this close look at our historic heritage, and our forward view toward business and academic growth.
Historic Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia & Prime Outlets Shopping
Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia is a carefully preserved historic settlement dating back to the 17th Century. All buildings lining Duke of Gloucester Street, the settlement's main thoroughfare, are original to the colonial period and fully restored for the enjoyment of visitors. Enactors in period clothing stroll the area, engaging visitors with historically correct commentary and dialogue. Several shops, taverns and trade sites are open for demonstrations of daily life as it was in 17th Century Virginia. Market Square, adjacent to the historic College of William and Mary, also offers restaurants and unique contemporary shopping.
Access to the Colonial area and Bruton Parish Church is free, but to take advantage of the various building tours (the Capitol, the Governor's Palace, the Magazine and other specific trade demonstrations), you must purchase a Pass. Washington, D.C.
The Conference excursion to Washington, D.C. (two hours north of Richmond) will begin mid-morning with a visit to the Foreign Press Center for a panel program (to be confirmed), then on to the Kuwait Embassy for lunch and an awards program. The afternoon will include an exploration of the Newseum, a fabulous new museum dedicated to the history of journalism in the USA, before returning to Richmond.
